Wireless Design Specialist

Cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and laptop computers have become essential in today's world, both for business and personal use. With flexible configurations and versatile roaming, technical knowledge of the wireless design field is vital for designing future networks. From the business industry to the household sector, the proliferation of wireless LAN networking hardware makes proficiency in the subject a necessity for network designers.

WD Specialist candidates are tested on their ability to understand and apply a vast collection of knowledge of wireless systems and wireless design. Those awarded the WD Specialist credential have demonstrated their knowledge in:
  • Wireless fundamentals
  • WLAN 802.11 standards and applications
  • Antenna selection
  • Security requirements
  • Site surveys required to deploy successful WLAN solutions
  • Licensed and unlicensed spectrum use
  • Point-to-point (PTP)
  • Point-to-multipoint technologies
  • Cellular networks
  • Personal area networks (PANs), such as Bluetooth
To apply for the WD Specialist credential examination, you must have:
  • A minimum of two years of approved and verifiable design experience in wireless design. Generic ITS/distribution system design or experience in another area of specialization is not acceptable.
  • Successfully completed the ITS Fundamentals examination or hold a current RCDD.
The WD credential is valid for three years.
